Educators
Come see how we’ve changed over the last two years!
Under the direction of Executive Director Robert Sain, the CLA has embarked upon a new journey of community engagement.
The Centre for the Living Arts Education Department is dedicated to connecting children with significant contemporary art while providing cross-curriculum learning opportunities for K-12th grade students. School tours use multi sensory learning opportunities for exploring math, science, English, and social studies through compelling interactions with the four areas of Discipline-Based Arts Education: arts production, art history and culture, criticism and aesthetics, and core curriculum standards. With an expanded slate of educational and public programming that is continually being developed, the CLA offers hands-on interaction with real artwork and endless opportunities for creative discovery.
Futures Project (May 10, 2013 – January 31, 2014) is a nine-month program that will examine future possibilities for the Gulf Coast, with focus areas that are both expected and unexpected.
Futures Project features a group exhibition of emerging and established visual artists from around the world in our 16,000 square ft. gallery. In addition to the exhibition, the CLA will organize an extensive slate of educational and public programming to compliment and amplify Futures Project.
A different topic relating to the future will be examined each month through film screenings, public forums and conversations, studio classes and workshops for all ages, plus special programming for teens and seniors.
Topics for monthly programming include the future of:
Childhood & aging
Home, place & immigration
Race, class & ethics
Communication, information, knowledge & wisdom
Education & learning, success & failure
Health, wellness & spirituality
Environment, climate change, prediction & politics
Art & cultural organizations
Mobile & downtown economic development
